Year Five
When you get married almost instantly you begin getting asked "so when will you have kids?" Jeremy and I learned quick and our response was "we are on the 5yr plan."
June this year we will celebrate 10yrs of marriage. It wouldn't take you long to read my previous blogs "delayed fertility " and learn our story. Babies don't happen for everyone, and it has taken us much longer than 5yrs to be okay with that. If you find yourself struggling through delayed fertility please know that is something we do not take lightly and we are always here if you need to talk. Nearly 10years, 4 nephew's, and a beautiful niece later I can honestly say we have never been happier. But we are still on that 5yr plan.
Magpie: a childhood nickname, a cute wrist tattoo, and a culinary school drop out.
Magpie means joy and is my childhood nickname. I was raised on the kitchen counter. Hospitality is more than what I do, it is who I am. If you ever catch a glimpse of my wrist tattoo you will notice the Magpie logo perched on top of silverware. It symbolizes a life of service. I believe when you are doing what you love you radiate a contagious joy. Two classes away from graduating culinary school our lives took a pivot. We moved to Fredericksburg and accepted jobs to run a large property (26 acres 18 rentable spaces) a beautiful resort in the heart of the hill country. We would learn a lot: how to work together, the pursuit of excellence, how to lead a team, and much more.
4yrs of hospitality, 4 years of trusting the process, 4 years of stepping up to learn, 4 years of stepping out into the unknown to follow a dream has lead us right where we find ourselves today. Ready.
2016 A vacation turned into an internship
2017 An internship into a job
2017 A job into a live in position
2018 Live in position into selling our home
2018 Selling our home to set us up financially
2019 A Convention turned into a job offer.
2019 Relocating to Fredericksburg to work together and run a property.
2020 Now what? A hard heart tug, a strong pull in a direction back home.
Are you CRAZY?
For six+ months I have followed the development of a town, a town dear to my heart. The town with the kitchen counter I grew up on. I have watched a town start to come back to life. I have rallied in excitement for others (strangers) brave enough to stepp up and start their business. I have watched from a distance, cheering them on. Longing to be there too. A few months ago Jeremy and I began looking at properties in this town. Property after property we became frustrated with the amount of construction houses would need to turn them into a practical Bed and Breakfast. So I chose the house. I chose a beautiful Victorian, a house full of history. A house walking distance to the redeveloping main street. I did some research and learned who owned the home. Y'all it is with great excitement I can say we offered to buy a home that was not for sale, in a town that is going places. Are we crazy? Just as crazy as the water we will soon be drinking!
Our hope is that you trust the process. That you accept nothing less than the things that bring you absolute joy. That you are crazy enough to pursue your dreams and brave enough to go for them wherever they lead you!
This is year 5 y'all and it's going be a crazy one!
