Why Mineral Wells?

Jeremy and I started our journey looking for our bed and breakfast nearly 5yrs ago. We have spent the last few years learning all we can about the industry. The day to day operations, industry trends, guests perspective and needs, down to what it looks like to live on and run a property. We are all in, we dove in and submerged ourselves into the life as Innkeepers. This would mean even selling our home and literally moving into someone else's establishment. No matter where we are, owning our own is the end goal. We felt very strongly about "try before you buy" with the industry average being 7yrs as an Innkeeper we knew we needed to make sure this was for us!

While we spent a great deal of time learning the industry we spent just as much time searching for our location. We broke down each option into a spreadsheet to calculate feasibility of business in a given location. We wanted to know what drove tourism, for how long on avg., length of stay, seasonal?, what reasons brought guest back if any...., what type of guest area would attract, what guest needs would be and so on. Yeah I know my nerd is showing. I made it my personal goal to find a location that would set us up for success. If I was tech savvy enough to insert the buzzer sound here I would...buzzer sound after buzzer sound we slashed locations off our option list.

Now for the side of the story that doesn't seem real but is.....

I grew up on a kitchen counter in Mineral Wells. Cooking with my Nana is still one of my greatest joys. We taste test, adjust, and take pride in providing a smile and a full belly to the ones we love. To this day you can hear her call me from the kitchen "Magpie" and in I come. If you would have told me two years ago we would re-open the doors to a Historic Bed and Breakfast in Mineral Wells I would have laughed and said "oh yeah for who...." Mineral Wells never crossed my mind as an option. Sure I heard the stories growing up serveral hundred times "they are re-doing the Baker" insert eyeroll, I was a skeptic. Don't get me wrong I always hoped this town would see new life but I didn't see it as practical and I most certainly never thought it deserved a look through my magnifying, fine tooth. At closer glance Mineral Wells actually is a perfect fit to my spreadsheet jigsaw puzzle.

 "Why Mineral Wells?"
